Canterbury keen on luring Aidan Sezer to Belmore

Post by Goobeeful » January 6, 2018, 8:13 pm

Dean Pay wants Canberra Raiders half Aidan Sezer at the Canterbury Bulldogs

THE Bulldogs are continuing their hunt for a halfback, with Aidan Sezer now in the sights of the Belmore-based club.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the Bulldogs are considering making the Canterbury junior an offer to return home as they look for a long-term partner for big-money recruit Kieran Foran.

Despite being close to securing Knights young gun Jack Cogger on a two-year deal beginning in 2019, Sezer has been put on the club’s shopping list with several at the Bulldogs keen to see the East Hills junior back in the kennel.

Ricky wants cam smith but that cant happen because

Well, he could go there, on a fairly low wage, do all the hard work for none of the headlines, and then get punted when Foran flames out...

I wouldnt be at all against letting him go. Affordability at the Bulldogs shouldn't be an issue as they could offer him a back ended deal. We have coverage at half back for this year with Williams and those other kids we signed. While I know Sezer has potential, he hasn't brought it to the Raiders in the past 2 years so what is to suggest this year will be any different. His salary would be better utilised signing a first grade 9.

Given the Dogs had to make some moves to become cap compliant it’s hard to see how they can free up the $500k for Sezer. Morris twins the only notable names off contract in 2018.

Wouldn't have thought Eastwood is in Sezer's price bracket.

I’ve read that because of backending, Eastwood would be on something like 800k this year.

Does it say anywhere in the article it's for this year?

It wouldnt suprise me if we did let him go and used all his cash to put Jnr and co on even more overs.

Make this happen.

It's our only chance.

Season 2018 is dead before it starts if he remains.

Or we could let him go and give Junior the 7.

Sezer hasn't seemed happy here since his first injury. Form-wise, he's struggled at times.

I wouldn't mind it if we looked at the Super League again and see who might be capable of stepping up.

We're two out of three for Englishmen and I'm not sure how many if we included returning NRL players. FPN was underwhelming, but if you back as far as Jason Smith, I reckon the odds are good.

The problem with that is your obvious choice is Gale who last year was the man of steel and had a thousand try assists. I was very keen to see how he went in the World Cup with those form lines and to be honest he was very ordinary.

Hey he next best option is arguably Brough who has to be on the verge of retiring.

Please show me where I said top line hooker. I said first grade hooker which is something we won't have for the first 20 weeks of 2018. I was referring to a guy like the Irish international who has played 200 first grade games including England in the past. Do you honestly believe that would be out of the realm of possibility?? It would alleviate salary cap pressure and I'd argue that we wouldn't be that much worse off squad wise. There would be many other options looking for an opportunity

McIlorum signed with Catalan.

I think we are going to make do with what we have. Sticky has laid down the challenge to Garvey and Havili and its up to them to aim up. If Sezer and Austin aim up we should be reasonably ok, given the draw.

Agree GEM, the club have had two months now to work on combinations. I'm confident Garvey, Havilli, Sezer, Austin and Sam can hold the fort til Hodgo comes back. Plenty of work has gone into Garvey and Havilli I'm sure..

Sezer won't leave.

Uppercuts to those who think Sam Williams is a viable alternative.

Sam is a speed bump in defence.

Sam is slow.

Just go watch our game vs Knights, I think round 2, 2016.

Sam is depth. He's an upgrade on L Croker. Period.

maybe I am just a little too innocent, but I can't see Dean cutting Ricky's grass and stealing players unless Ricky agreed to it and it was a win for the raiders ala the Priest/Garvey swap

Mate. Not sure who in this thread is suggesting Sam Williams is a great alternative. The comparison is not Williams with Sezer or any other first grade half. The point is that Williams is more capable than either our hooker options at the moment and so there would be more to gain directing sezers salary to a competent 9..

We've got one, with Baptiste likely to return next year.

Besides, in your theory; if we left Sezer go now, only a month or so from trials, with absolutely bugger all out there in terms of 9s, who do you propose we sign?

And letting our 7 go to sign an at best B grade level hooker ( we just signed 2 remember) ....how does that help us?

It's all moot anyway. He's not going anywhere..

Sorry for the rant. I'm hot and I have a headache
