A theoretical question

Post by cat » January 14, 2018, 1:28 pm

Was talking to a friend the other day (yes I have friends :P ) and some how it came up what would I do if the Raiders left the competition.

My friend thinks I would start supporting another team if that was the case and was shocked when I said no I would walk away from the game, watch my boys play for other clubs on tv but go to no more games. Hey it would save me a fortune!

So the question is what would you do if the Raiders left the comp?

A theoretical question

Would watch games on TV, but certainly wouldn’t support another team.

A theoretical question

Post by Fuifui Bradbrad » January 14, 2018, 2:26 pm

I only follow the NRL because of the Raiders. I’m not one to watch other clubs play. If the Raiders left, I’d stop watching the NRL all together. Luckily I have the Wanderers as my summer sport.

If the Raiders relocated, I’d still follow them

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Would still watch footy, but could never support another team.

I'd probably watch more MMA and Boxing on TV and split my in person attendance between the Brumbies, GWS and Big Bash.

I would stop following rubgy league altogether. I used to be a league fan in general as well as the Raiders, however how the game is run these days with the refereeing, TPA, NRL favourtism of certain teams etc, I'm now just purely a Raiders fan. The Raiders are the only reason I still follow the game so if they go, I go.

I'm really not surprised you have friends.

My favourite colour is green, and there is only one green machine.

I really have no interest in any other RL team, so maybe my kids would persuasive me to take them to a game I have no interest in.

Yep, I feel the same.

I'd choose a new code and let the NRL go entirely. Which is a shame because I used to really enjoy watching whatever game was on. Now I watch them all but I don't get pleasure out of them. It's all reconnaissance.

Its interesting pretty much all of us would pretty much stop going rather than find a new team

Would be interesting to know if all club fans are the same or if some clubs have less "club" fans and more league fans

Reckon knights would be the same

That is exactly why I watch 5 or 6 or 8 games of NRL a round.

No Raiders, and I'd go back to the sport of my youth, AFL. Or in fact as it was, the VFL.

And in 20 years I'll still be waiting for a Canberra A League team to follow. RIP the Arrows, the Cosmos, City etc...

Nah.

There are already other professional sports out there that appear more appealing, not to mention all of the things in life outside of sport.
